Touching Life, Betty Daily

I grew up in the nineteen-thirties and forties and attended a denomination which was small in number but had the fundamental teachings of the Bible as we understood them. At age thirteen I got baptized along with other twelve- and thirteen-year-olds. At age sixteen I stopped attending Sunday morning services and tried to find something in the world to satisfy me.

I got married and had a large family and returned to my old denomination, mostly to have a social life. Within me, however, there was still much hunger for the Lord. Not being satisfied with this environment, I tried another place-a place without a name, but with an elder. The elder's wife invited me to go to a home meeting which she was attending. There, I first touched the life of God. I made the most amazing discovery-I had a human spirit, and within my human spirit, the Holy Spirit dwelt. I finally found out how God could be in me, and where He was. The way to touch Him is to call “O Lord Jesus”.

That was thirty years ago, and since that time I have been with many others who have made the same discovery. We are in the local churches meeting as the church in each locality.

Through the writings of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee, and through the speaking of Witness Lee, I have had the Scriptures opened up to me. I saw that God has an eternal purpose and a heart's desire. He wants and needs a corporate Body on the earth to express Him and defeat His enemy, Satan. We cannot do this as individuals no matter how spiritual or capable we are. We must be one with all the Christians that meet as one in each locality-many members, but one body-Christ and the church.

Four of my children, with their families, are now practicing this way, and have been for years. Another daughter receives all the ministry publications and has matured in her Christian life. One of my sons reads the ministry books and receives a lot of light. We are at home in the church and have ended our search. We have found reality-a wonderful Person named Jesus! Through this ministry, I have realized that sometime in the near future, the Lord Jesus will return to steal away the firstfruits who have ripened early, the overcomers.

This ministry has helped me to cooperate with Him and to pray, “Lord, make me an overcomer in this age. I want to enjoy You at the wedding feast for a thousand years instead of being in outer darkness regretting that I did not let You have Your way in my life.”
